![]() After few kilometres I was soaking wet. I knew I would not get far today. I just had to find 1st dry spot to stop. Characteristic bridges, this one though is more characteristic than others - one car lane is shared with rail tracks! I left Greymouth heading south towards Kumara Junction, then turned east. 7 km later I reached Kumara village. I found a hotel (pub) with and old bicycle attached above entrance door and decided that I will stay there. I got a nice room upstairs for NZ$ 25! Since it was relatively early the owner allowed me roll out the tent in the bar to dry it.
![]() ![]() Next day was cloudy but did not rain from the beginning so I quickly packed and hit the road. I wasn't dry for long... tough day again. Wet, wind started to blow plus I was constantly climbing. I was going from sea level to 400 m today. Before final climb to Arthur's Pass (920) I wanted to stop in Otira. Otira - village with population of 50 plus people! And most of the village is private. Owner of the hotel also owns most of the village. Great, isn't. From here it is only 15 km to Arthur's Pass. Tomorrow will be heavy. Distances - 26 & 59,30 km; Average speeds - 18 & 17,14km/h
