![]() I am encountering west coast flora more and more, wherever you look the slopes are covered by small bushes, and along the road you can see more ferns. The terrain becomes very hilly. Not huge climbs but you can feel them. Few kilometres after Wanaka, you cross the junction where you can turn towards Lake Hawea town, and after that you there is again basically nothing in terms of living settlements. Next place to stop is Makarora, and this is where I will sleep. In the afternoon the wind builds up and at some stages I am getting fed up again. Mobile phone does not have coverage, at will be like this for another number of days.
![]() After the nexk it was supposed to downhill, but the blasts of wind did not allow to gain momentum. At the end it was quite hard riding. I started to feel very tired and was already dreaming of the camping and shower. Makarora - official population is 30 people! Whole businness there is centralized on the petrol station. You even pay for the camping on the petrol station...
Distance - 66,71 km; Average speed - 14,08 km/h
