Day 5, Waimate - Oamaru; March 12, 2004
Friday, 07 July 2006

Very dump, whole inside of outside layer is wet from condensation. I cannot even dry it out cos it is cloudy and chilly.

I am heading towards road #1, which I left yesterday. So far it is quite calm so I have great hopes for today. My biggest concern is the tube in the rear wheel. I have to find a shop in Oamaru and buy thorn-free tube I was told about.

Relatively flat, fields and fields, sheeps, horses, cows and I am becoming bored with the scenery.

Every 10 km I have to pump the tube!!! I am going nuts because of that. I could change the tube to other one (also patched) but this would not do much good anyway.

Around 1 p.m. it becomes hot and my left leg starts to remind about itself. I am more and more coming to the decision of catching up with time and distance by taking a bus from some point. East coast is very nice but I cannot spend too much time here. I have already been here for a week and still see the same stuff.

In Oamaru I quickly locate bike shop and deal with the tube story (NZ$ 15 for the tube!). While waiting for the wheel to be fixed I treat myself with bus ticket for tomorrow to Queenstown (~NZ$ 50 + 10 for the bike).

The guy from the shop directed me to the camping - blind me - NZ$ 13! Most expensive so far. The one in Timaru looked better and was 2 dollars cheaper. The good thing is that tomorrow my guts can rest while I can enjoy countryside from the seat of the bus.

Distance - 60 km; Average speed - 15 km/h
